A new community service project for military families, entitled “Open Shop Salute,” was announced by Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut (CT ABC) on January 22 at the Aqua Turf in Southington. CT ABC, in conjunction with the National Guard, is spearheading an effort to help families who have a loved one who is away serving in the military. CT ABC will conduct a free home inspection and perform maintenance for National Guard families. Member companies are donating man hours (both field and supervisory levels), equipment and monetary donations. CT ABC hopes to expand their project to other branches of the military.
The most recent project was completed in Griswold, CT. This project was for an Army family is in immediate need of a new roof. The husband, a reservist, will soon be on his way to Afghanistan. For a video clip of this project, please click here.
